Lecture in Epe, The Netherlands

one-level defects and Deep Margin Elevation

On 26 January 2026, at the Parodontologie Epe, I had the opportunity to give a presentation on Deep Margin Elevation (DME) for margins that are almost at the bone level, as an alternative to surgical crown lengthening.

The presentation also highlighted the relationship between Deep Margin Elevation and biomimetic restorative dentistry, emphasizing how this approach can lead to a successful and predictable outcome for teeth with deep defects.

Hands-On in Dordrecht, The Netherlands

25 October – Hands-on Masterclass in Restorative Dentistry (Dordrecht, The Netherlands)

On 25 October 2025, an intensive masterclass took place in Dordrecht, focused on restorative dentistry under magnification, with an emphasis on precision, predictable isolation, and adhesive cementation. Key topics included deep margin elevation for subgingival restorations using copper matrix bands, cementation with preheated composite, and controlled rubber dam isolation in complex cases. The program combined morning lectures with an afternoon hands-on session under the microscope, highlighting how magnification helps prevent errors that may go unnoticed without optical control.

Hands-On in San Diego, United States

The Master Adhesive Precision in Restorative Dentistry course took place in La Jolla, California, on September 14, 2025. This hands-on, microscope-enhanced program focused on Deep Margin Elevation using the Copper Band Technique and thermo-modified luting with preheated composites. Participants worked under high magnification to improve the management of deep subgingival margins, enhance bond strength, and optimize marginal adaptation, and each attendee received a take-home copper band kit as part of the course.

Reaching Deep Defects

This presentation explored advanced clinical strategies for treating deep subgingival defects, with a strong focus on the role of the dental operating microscope in enhancing visualization, precision, and treatment outcomes. Emphasis was placed on identifying and working within distinct restorative zones, highlighting when and where specific matrix band systems were most effective for optimal isolation and adaptation. Additionally, the presentation addressed the propagation of vertical cracks—conditions that most often extended subgingivally—and examined their clinical implications for diagnosis, access, and long-term restorative success.

Presented on 12 September 2025, La Jolla, California, United States.

The Cracked Tooth

Diagnosis, Decision-Making, and Management in Complex Clinical Scenarios

This lecture was delivered during Waddencursus 2025 on the island of Vlieland and focused on the clinical challenges associated with cracked teeth. The session addressed the etiology, diagnosis, and progression of cracks in teeth, with particular attention to their impact on treatment planning and prognosis.

Presented in April 2025, Vlieland, The Netherlands.
